Argentine Tango in Scotland

There are a number of cities where Argentine tango is established or has just started to make an appearance. Edinburgh has had a tango scene for 9 years, started and run largely by the Edinburgh Tango Society. Glasgow has been going just as long, but only started getting organised and building numbers in 2003. Other towns and cities in Scotland got their first taste of Tango in 2001 and are now getting more and more dancers. For residents, there is more and more opportunity to learn and dance tango in a place near you. For visitors, Scotland is well known for its welcome in general, and especially to visiting tango tourists, so we look forward to seeing you soon.

Edinburgh

Tango Capital of Scotland. There are two weekly milongas, classes 5 nights a week, with professional teacher Ricardo Oría and Jenny Frances, a community of over 150 regular dancers (the ETS has 180 subscribers), and regular visits by dancers , musicians and teachers. The Edinburgh Tango Society was formed in 1997, so standards of dancing are quite good. Full details on the ETS website www.edinburghtango.org.uk

Glasgow

Glasgow how has an up and coming tango scene with over 100 dancers attending the classes every week. There are classes on several days of the week. The are long running classes by Claire on Thursdays at the St Francis centre, with Ricardo and Jenny, Scotland's resident professional tango teacher on Wednesdays evenings, Wim and Catherine on Mondays, John and Sarah, Tuesdays and Danny sand Laura, Saturdays . There is also a regular milionga on Wednesdays. Other events include visiting teachers and special milongas.

Improvers: 8.45pm

Practica: 9.30 to 10.30 pm

Regular special events i.e. vesting teachers and classes, and regular Milongas. The last event was a masked ball on the 13th of Feb 2005 at which Jenny & Ricardo gave classes and performance. We have run 2 such events since November last year and plan more in the coming months etc."
